Welcome NEH Summer Scholars to NEH Arendt 2014

After careful deliberation, my committee members and I selected the 2014 Summer Scholars who will study the political theory of Hannah Arendt under my direction this summer at Bard College’s Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and the Humanities.
Sixteen teachers from about as many areas across the country–and even outside, since one is teaching currently at a school in Brazil–will gather on Bard’s campus in late June to begin a five week journey into three central texts by Hannah Arendt–Eichmann in Jerusalem, The Origins of Totalitarianism, and The Human Condition.
I would like to extend hearty congratulations and a warm welcome and to each of the sixteen teachers. Brief bios and photos of them are now available under NEH 2014 Participants tab, found at the left of the home page and linked here.
I look forward to the lively conversations we will have this coming summer and to the adventure of thinking about difficult subjects with a group of dedicated educators and colleagues.
